Camlock Type C 3″ (DN80) — Brass Female Coupler × Hose Shank

Type C cam-and-groove coupling in 3-inch (DN80, 76 mm hose ID) configuration: female cam-lock end on one side, barbed hose shank on the other. Manufactured to A-A-59326 (the US Federal Standard that superseded the legacy MIL-C-27487 specification), so this part is fully interchangeable with any compliant Type C from Dixon, OPW, PT Coupling, Banjo, JME or any Asian brass/aluminium foundry. Tested and certified for petroleum service: gasoline, diesel, kerosene, biofuels up to B100 with the right gasket.

Why Type C is the workhorse on the hose end

In a typical fuel transfer hose assembly you need exactly two halves: a cam-lock end that latches onto the truck or tank adapter, and a barbed end that grips the hose. Type C is that assembly in one part — no additional adapters, no female-female swivels. The two cam arms snap shut over the male groove with a single hand motion, achieving a vibration-resistant, leak-tight seal in under three seconds without tools. On the other end the multi-ridge barb seats inside the rubber/PVC/composite hose and is locked with a band clamp (worm-drive or T-bolt) — typical hose ID 76 mm with reinforcement layer for negative-pressure suction service.

Mating chart

• Type E (male adapter × hose shank) — most common on the tank/skid side; field-installable on a hose end opposite to the C
• Type F (male adapter × male NPT thread) — for connection to threaded pipe inlets
• Type A (male adapter × female NPT thread) — for connection to threaded pipe outlets
• Type DC (dust cap, female) — used to plug the C-coupler when not in use, keeping debris out
• Type DP (dust plug, male) — used to plug the mating E/F adapter on the other end of the line

All same-size Type-C parts mate with all same-size Type-E/F/A adapters regardless of brand, because the cam, groove and gasket geometry are dimensionally locked by the federal standard.

Construction and materials

• Body — sand-cast forged brass (CDA 360 / EN CW617N), the universal choice for petroleum service: corrosion-resistant, dimensionally stable, no galvanic issues with steel hose stems
• Cam arms and pins — same brass, cast and machined as part of the body; no plastic or zinc-die-cast parts to fail under load
• Gasket — Buna-N (NBR) standard for petroleum products; on request: Viton/FKM (for ethanol blends, biodiesel, aromatic solvents), EPDM (water/glycol service), PTFE (high-temperature or aggressive chemicals)
• Hose shank — multi-barb profile for 76 mm ID hose; designed for permanent attachment with band-style hose clamps (we recommend worm-drive 90-110 mm range or T-bolt clamps for high-vibration service)

Stainless steel and aluminium variants — on request

Brass is the standard and recommended material for >90% of petroleum applications. For specialised cases we supply the same Type C 3″ in:

• AISI 316 stainless steel — for marine, chemical, food-grade or saltwater-exposed installations
• AISI 304 stainless steel — general-purpose corrosion resistance, lower cost than 316
• Aluminium (LM6 or 6061-T6) — weight-sensitive applications (mobile fuel skids, military / NATO style portable equipment); often paired with NBR gasket

Operating envelope

• Working pressure — 7 bar (1 MPa, ≈100 psi) sustained, 10 bar peak burst rating per A-A-59326 for 3″ size in brass
• Operating temperature — −20…+80 °C with NBR; up to +200 °C with PTFE gasket
• Vacuum service — full vacuum tolerable when properly sealed; the cam-and-groove geometry seals tighter under negative pressure (the gasket is pulled into the groove)
• Anti-spark — brass body inherently non-sparking, suitable for ATEX zone 1/2 fuel transfer when the rest of the assembly meets ATEX (hose, clamps, grounding)

Typical applications at fuel stations and oil depots

• Bulk delivery hose ends — connection between the road tanker's discharge hose and the underground tank's fill point
• Tank-truck top-loading — the C end on the loader's hose mates with the E adapter on the truck dome
• Skid-mounted dispenser kits — quick-disconnect between the skid pump suction and the temporary supply tank
• Defueling and product transfer — emergency draining of dispenser tanks during maintenance or contamination events
• Aviation refueller and lube oil bowsers — Type C is the de-facto worldwide standard on the hose end of any portable petroleum equipment
