SYW-A magnetostrictive automatic tank gauge (ATG) probe manufactured by Gerkon for continuous, real-time monitoring of fuel level, water level and product temperature inside petroleum storage tanks. Designed for retail forecourts, fleet depots, fuel terminals, marine and aviation storage facilities. Stainless steel construction, dual-float design (product + water bottom), multi-point temperature sensing along the probe length.
Designed for continuous fuel and water level monitoring
SYW-A uses magnetostrictive measurement technology — a single waveguide tube along which two floats slide freely (one on the fuel surface, one on the water bottom layer). A current pulse sent down the waveguide interacts with each float magnet, generating a return pulse measured at the probe head. Time-of-flight calculation gives sub-millimetre level resolution along the entire probe length, independent of fuel type, density or temperature changes.
Key features
- Continuous level measurement — fuel surface accuracy ±0.4 mm, water bottom ±2 mm
- Multi-point temperature sensing — 5 to 9 RTD points along probe length, average product temperature for volume correction (ASTM D1250)
- Dual-float design — separate detection of product layer and water bottom, supports water-in-fuel alarms
- Probe lengths — 1.5 m to 6.0 m (custom to tank height), with 50 mm increments
- In-tank leak detection — static-test mode detects leaks down to 0.38 L/h (EN 13160 Class I) and 0.76 L/h (Class II)
- Stainless steel construction — AISI 316L wetted parts, fully compatible with petrol, diesel, biodiesel B100, ethanol blends E85, AdBlue
- Communication — Modbus RTU (RS-485) for direct interface with UPD-1 cloud controller or third-party SCADA / forecourt POS
- Power — intrinsically safe 9–24 V DC supply via I.S. barrier
- Mounting — 4″ NPT or 4″ BSPP top-of-tank fitting (standard EN 14595 boss)

- ISO 9001 manufacturing quality system
Applications
- Retail forecourts — automatic tank gauging for inventory reconciliation, BIR (Business Inventory Reconciliation), wetstock management
- Fuel depots and terminals — bulk inventory monitoring, allocation accounting, tank-truck loading verification
- Fleet bases — diesel tank monitoring with consumption analytics per vehicle group
- Aviation refuelling depots — Jet A-1 inventory with water bottom alarms (critical for aviation safety)
- Marina fuel docks — petrol and diesel tank monitoring with cloud telemetry to dock office
- AdBlue / DEF tanks — separate probe variant available for AdBlue tank monitoring (EN 17186 compatible)
Cloud integration with UPD-1 controller
Connect up to 4 SYW-A probes to a single Gerkon UPD-1 Wi-Fi controller for unified cloud monitoring at azs.gerkon.com. The cabinet provides real-time inventory dashboards, configurable alarm thresholds (low-level, high-water, leak detected), automated daily reconciliation reports, and CSV/SAP-compatible export. For sites with existing ATG console (Veeder-Root TLS-450PLUS, Franklin EVO, OPW SiteSentinel), SYW-A connects via Modbus RTU and reports in standard ATG protocol.
Ordering — probe length configurator
Specify at order: (1) probe length to nearest 50 mm — measure from boss seal to within 100 mm of tank floor, (2) process connection 4″ NPT or 4″ BSPP, (3) cable length 10/25/50/100 m, (4) AdBlue variant if required, (5) ATEX I.S. barrier (Gerkon-supplied or customer-supplied). Lead time 4–6 weeks from confirmed order plus EU transit.
Frequently asked questions
What is the leak detection capability?
Static in-tank leak test per EN 13160: 0.38 L/h sensitivity (Class I) detected within 4 hours of static test conditions; 0.76 L/h sensitivity (Class II) within 2 hours. Leak detection is performed by analysing level decay rate when no transactions are active (typically overnight at retail sites).
Is the probe ATEX certified?
The base probe is engineered for ATEX zone 0 installation when used with a certified intrinsically safe (I.S.) barrier. Formal ATEX type approval per Directive 2014/34/EU is dependent on the installation site classification and barrier choice — typically the responsibility of the installer or system integrator. Contact our export desk for the technical file (constructional drawings, materials list, electrical schematic) supporting your local ATEX assessment.
Does it work with E85 ethanol or B100 biodiesel?
Yes — AISI 316L wetted parts and PEEK float guides are fully compatible with the full range of petroleum products including high-ethanol blends (E85) and pure biodiesel (B100). For methanol or pure aviation fuels, contact us for the special-seal variant.
Can I retrofit SYW-A to a tank that already has another ATG probe?
Most tanks have a 4″ ATG boss as standard EU practice (EN 14595). SYW-A drops in to replace existing Veeder-Root, OPW or Franklin probes with the same fitting. Cable routing can usually reuse existing conduit. Allow 2–3 hours per tank for the swap.
What happens if the cable is damaged?
Cable damage is the most common ATG failure mode. SYW-A uses 5-core armoured cable rated for direct burial; in case of damage, the probe head is field-serviceable — the cable connector is accessible without lifting the probe out of the tank. Replacement cable assemblies are stocked and shipped within 24 hours.

SHIPPING INFORMATION FOR UKRAINE
Our company is committed to fast shipping and delivery throughout Ukraine. We work with carriers that offer the best balance of price and quality, including:
NOVA POSHTA
1-3 days. Delivery speed depends on your location. After placing your order and payment, we ship the same day or the next.
SAT
Delivery time 3-5 days. Speed depends on the distance between sender and recipient. This is the most economical option compared to Nova Poshta.
DELIVERY
Shipping takes 4-7 days. This is the slowest method, but its advantage is the low cost.
FREIGHT POOLING
Shipping is done via shared transport through a dispatcher. Finding a vehicle takes 1-2 days; speed depends on the destination (major cities are faster, remote villages slower). This method is cheaper than the carriers listed above.
We work throughout Ukraine, and on request can arrange delivery via another courier service not on our list.
After placing your order in our online store, please provide the following information for delivery to your region:
- Recipient's full name
- City or town
